Post Treatment Information
Things to
Know When Whitening Your Teeth
Recommended Wear
Time
Overnight has been shown to give the fastest, most consistent results.
Some patients may experience mild sensitivity. If this occurs, then wear
time may be done in shorter intervals during the day. This will also
lengthen the time for whitening results.
Things to Avoid
While Whitening Your Teeth
Anything that will stain your teeth is more likely to stain during
treatments:
Coffee, tea, cokes, dark fruit juices, and tobacco to list a few.
If you consume these items during treatment do your best to avoid
direct contact with the smiling surfaces of your teeth.
(use a straw when drinking, to bypass the front of the teeth)

Care of Mouth
After Extractions
Do not rinse your mouth today. Tomorrow, rinse gently every 3 to 4 hours
(especially after meals). Use one teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm
water.
For swelling, place a cold towel or ice bag on the side of your face for
the first 4 to 5 hours. Leave it on for fifteen minutes, then off for
fifteen minutes.
It is normal for saliva to be streaked with blood for about 1 to 2 days.
If persistent bleeding occurs, place a piece of moist gauze over the
extraction site and bite down for 30 to 45 minutes. Repeat if necessary
until bleeding subsides.
For mild to average pain, Advil or Tylenol may be taken every 3 to 4
hours. It is normal to experience some discomfort depending on the
difficulty of extraction.
A liquid or soft diet is recommended for the first 24 hours. Carbonated
beverages, such as soda or beer, and drinking from a straw should be
avoided for the next 24 hours so as not to disturb clot formation. Drink
lots of fluids.
Not smoking will decrease likelihood of dry socket and speed up healing.
Smoking and alcohol use retard healing.
If medication has been prescribed, be sure to take it as directed.
